Hopefully, Amy Adams and Glenn Close will win their First Oscar for this movie. Amy Adams and Glenn Close who both deserved to win an Oscar ages ago now have united and are going to both win Oscars. If they both won, how iconic that would be.
I will be watching this movie at least once every month to remind myself that I will turn into the boys mum if I keep making excuses , playing the victim ,fleeing and pointing fingers... No matter how bad my upbringing was.
I am going to be somebody.
This movie was very relatable to me. I was also raised by abusive people who lacked empathy, and had serious emotional problems that they should have been dealing with, rather than having children. Went off to college at age 17, and it was touch and go for a while there. Had to work very hard to grow myself up and give myself what I missed, and I had to figure it out myself (while dealing with a sibling who fell down the addiction rabbit hole).
For the critics, they are fortunate to find this movie unrelatable. For me, it really hit home. I thought they quite accurately captured abusive family dynamics, and the behaviors that go hand-in-hand with addiction (and dysfunctional relationships), and how it affects the children.
Not everyone gets out of the cycle, . But stories like this one, where the person finds inner resources that they didn’t realize they had, to persevere and get out, I personally find to be very inspiring. I thought it was a great movie.
